Qualcomm teases next-generation Snapdragon wearable platform

A new teaser has been posted to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Twitter handle, showing a peek at the next generation of wearable SoCs that’s “coming soon”.

The most recent Snapdragon Wear 4100+ is built on the 12nm process and included a new co-processor to help handle more background tasks like sensor input and sound. This SoC brought performance and battery improvements compared to the Snapdragon Wear 3100 Platform.

We are itching to see what kind of improvements the next Snapdragon Wear Platform will have. We are expecting to see something more along the lines of Samsung’s Exynos W920 (5nm) SoC but it’s difficult to predict Qualcomm’s next move with wearables. Given Google’s newfound focus on Wear OS, perhaps it will be something that will advance the platform forward as many Wear OS devices prior to version 3.0 are powered by Snapdragon Wear Platforms.

All we know is a new wearable chip is coming from Qualcomm. We don’t know which OEMs will use it, when it will arrive to market, nor its specs - not until Qualcomm makes its official announcement sometime soon.
