WhatsApp now supports screen sharing in video calls

WhatsApp's quest to add as many features as possible shows no signs of stopping. Case in point, a new one. Today Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the Meta-owned messaging service now supports screen sharing in video calls.

The feature is pretty self-explanatory. Using it, you can share documents, photos, or whatever else may be on your screen.

This has been in development for a few months now, having gone out to beta testers back in May. You can access it by tapping on the Share icon. Then you choose whether you want to share a specific app only or your entire screen, no matter what. If this sounds familiar, it's because Zoom and Google Meet's screen sharing functions work in a very similar way.

Is this WhatsApp's way of trying to gain some business territory from those aforementioned competitors? It's hard to tell, but this can also work for helping out a relative with tech support, can't it? So it doesn't have to be all about PowerPoints.

As usual, the new feature is rolling out in a phased manner, so you may not see it right away. It will be available on Android, iOS, and through the Windows desktop client for everyone in due course.

To complement screen sharing, WhatsApp is also allowing landscape mode video calls now.
