Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 – a 4nm chipset for the midrange

Qualcomm released over the weekend the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 – a chipset, built on the 4nm process technology, that is meant to be a solution for phone makers that want a capable platform that can fit within a far lower budget than the Gen 8 chips.

The CPU of the 7s is less powerful than any other Snapdragon 7 series chip, the ISP is also not as impressive, indicating a slightly lower positioning overall. Some rumors suggested the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 could arrive with the Redmi Note 13 series, scheduled to launch this month.

Qualcomm releases Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset – a 4nm platform for affordable midrangers

The name might sound confusing, because there wasn't a first-generation 7s or a second-gen Snapdragon 7. Also, we don't know what “s” stands for, but is clearly a marker for slashed specs. The CPU has four cores at 2.4 GHz for performance and the other four at 1.95 GHz for efficiency.

The Adreno GPU is unspecified, but it is listed to support FHD+ resolution at 144 Hz. The FastConnect 6700 connectivity platform is a step back from the 6900 on the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, and with it the peak DL speed is just 2.9 Gbps, while the Bluetooth supported is capped at 5.2, which still supports low-energy audio.

The Spectra ISP supports a smartphone with a single camera up to 200 MP and 4K video capture at 30 fps. Memory is LPDRR5 at 3200 MHz, while other features include USB-C 3.1 and Quick Charge 4+.

Qualcomm did not officially release a timeframe in which we'll see devices with the new chipset.
